Weekend observations: March edition

It's been a while since I have posted weekend observations,  let's get started.

Expectation Rating Scale (ERS) : This scale is subjective to the expectation of the event.
1-2.9  :   Horrible.
3-4.9  :   Sub-par
5-6.9  :   Average.
7-8.9  :   Expectation fulfilled.
9-10   :   Outdid expectation.

The Conversation Party/Choyce B- Day Celebration.
Somewhere in Brooklyn

The setting of the venue reminded me of  a wedding reception along side a set of chairs formed in a circle on one side of of the room.  We started with food and drinks. It was a byob type of event but still had a small collection of booze for the attendees of the event (This helped when I ran out of Johnnie Walker Black Label). It was an event with many people I have met over the few years I have been back in New York, which made the setting very comfortable, It wasn't awkward for the topics that would be spoken on this this night. Before we gathered in the circle of chairs we were asked to write down a question. The question had no boundaries, I think the timing was excellent when the papers were given because people at the event were a bit intoxicated which would lead to some more provocative questions.
The Conversation
There were two moderators and they passed around the jar with questions in the circle for a person to read to the attendees.  Who ever wished to answer got an opportunity to say what they felt and was either cosigned from the crowd or faced a rebuttal. It was enjoyable because this set of people actually had some really funny and colorful responses.  The one knock I did have was that it did become a thing where people were talking over one another,  If you want to try this type of party. I would suggest using a microphone  bit other than that it was a great experience and one I would attend again in a heart beat.

ERS  : 9.7

Last Saturday of the month bowling
98-18 Rockaway Boulevard,  Ozone Park, NY

Who doesn't like bowling?  Who doesn't like music? Who doesn't like moderately price alcoholic beverages? Add some great friends and now you have a nice chill bowling party. This event is held every last Saturday of the month,  it's $20 a person for entrance and you  bowl unlimited amount of games from 11pm to 3 am. There is a dj that spins hip hop and dancehall music all night,  also there are people that sell American and Caribbean cuisine throughout the night.  The bar is decent and sells drinks at a more reasonable price than going to a party or bowling alley in Manhattan.  The crowd ranged from about 18-30 year old with a relaxed dresscode. The crowd was good,  very urban, unfortunately the lane we had had mechanical issues and we weren't able to play consistently. People bowl for fun and want to see final scores.

Fifty Shades of Grey
Theatre of your choice

I was annoyed, everything about this movie annoyed me,  this isn't a movie for a man like me to watch cause I was left feeling like this can't be a real scenario. It was an emotional movie that caters to women's wants and needs,  I don't know how the billionaire man would come out looking like such an antagonist,  I am for him and think he handled the situation wrong, should have stuck to the script. I appreciate the soundtrack however.

Indoor Laser tag/Hannaughty B-Day Celebration
47--11 Van Dam St, Long Island City

Ever daydreamed of shooting your friends during a heated argument?  Here's your opportunity  to release some of that anger. I might be a real life Rambo , the way I was killing everyone in laser tag I should have won an award,  it's one thing to play shooting games on a gaming console,  it's another thing to play real life.  I averaged 25 kills per round and was second for most kills in a round throughout the event.  The space is smaller than I thought it would be, but it was well used.  There were obstacles to get through to attack the opposing team.  When it was all over my squad defeated the other in a slaughter like fashion. Definitely a fun experience that must be done again in the near future,  as you get older these things seem to be more fun.

ERS:  9.3

Bounce Trampoline Sports
Link

Another big kid event,  if you are into acrobatic behavior,  this is a place that would be fun for you. Once you get past the crowd of snotty nosed booger eaters,  you will embark on a tour of standing in line to do fun things,  my personal favorite activity was doing the flip into pool of cushions. Coming in second was the dodge ball competition,  sadly we lost and I was second to last on my team to be eliminated,  it was a good experience and something I would love to do again.

ERS:  8.8

Applebees

I give credit when it's due,  the revamped Applebees menu is a hit to me. In the past I preferred a place like Friday's, the new menu has given the restaurant a better dining experience and it has been enjoyable watching March madness and NBA games over the last month. Definitely a good job, no complaints on the bar food, and every game I want to see is capable of being seen on one of the numerous big screen TVs  within the restaurant.

ECM Rating:  7.7
